The historical centre – a stroll through the city

Odessa is a metropolis of over a million inhabitants. Yet in the centre – with its city park and large pedestrian precinct; with the cafes, restaurants, jugglers and buskers of the famous Deribasovskaya Street – the city feels relaxed and cheerful. No one seems in a rush, people stroll along making the most of the day. Even the busy main roads seem to lack the hecticness of other cities and in the leafy and, admittedly, slightly dilapidated suburbs, the pace is equally leisurely.

The proximity of the sea can be sensed during the short stroll from the port via the Potemkin Steps to Catherine Square and on into the centre. And again as you wander back to the Langeron Beach bars and cafes via Shevchenko Park. Why not drop in at the «Green Theatre» located in the park to enjoy any sort of cultural event, sip a coffee or simply to relax in the shade before the evening gets underway?

In Odessa there is something for everyone: culture lovers can visit museums, the opera, concerts and theatres. In the city’s numerous nightclubs, party animals can dance till dawn. Shopaholics will delight in the variety of outlets to be found here, where you can purchase international labels as well as excellent Ukrainian manufactured goods. There are also typical markets where you can acquire everything you need and a lot more besides: from fruit and veg, spices and meat to clothes, leather goods and building materials of all kinds.
