Odessa has borne and nurtured numerous world class musicians: to name but a few, distinguished violinists Nathan Milstein, David and Igor Oistrakh have their roots in the city, as well as famous pianists such as Emil Gilels and Sviatoslav Richter.
Odessa regularly hosts musical competitions and contests as well as classical and operatic festivals. With musical venues and events aplenty – chamber music evenings, jazz sessions, musicals, guest performances from visiting musicians, The Ukrainian Musical Dramatic Theatre, many discos and clubs – in Odessa there is something for every taste and mood.
